This may vary country by country, but at the universities we visited in the Netherlands this spring, the answer is definitely yes — lots of American students told us they had part-time jobs.

Both of our boys work in different Dutch cities and our daughter makes great cash money for dog walking and babysitting. For the boys, the key was if you want to work and you make over a certain amount you need Dutch health insurance or you get a huge fine. Some jobs you must speak Dutch but they have both worked successfully for almost 2 years and love their jobs and have really expanded their communities.
